About Pack O' Cards

Built to resemble a deck of cards, by bringing together various conceptual elements it was built on a plot of land measuring 52ft x 52ft, has four floors (representing the number of suits in a pack), 13 doors on every floor and 13 fireplaces throughout the monument (number of cards in a suit) and, prior to window tax, there were 52 panes of glass in all the windows adding up to the total of the numbered cards in a pack.

Situated just on the edge of Exmoor with plenty of ample free car parking, and less than a 10-minute gentle stroll to the Beach, our family friendly Inn is the place for you to stay in North Devon. All our bedrooms have recently been refurbished and decorated as you can see on our photos in this website and for that special break you could enjoy the luxurious four-poster bed. We have a fine selection of real ales, lagers, wines and spirits and you can enjoy excellent meals in one of our restaurants or alfresco in our riverside garden. There is a large playground and an area for the toddlers with play houses for the children and in the summer we have barbecues in the garden.
Come and visit one of Britain's most unusual follies - it will be a unique experience!

Plan your trip

The modern - luxury coach tours now visit and partake in the friendly hospitality, lunches and delicious cream teas, whereas many years ago the local stagecoach would pull into the courtyard for the horses and passengers to rest and be fed and watered. Guided tours of the famous Pack O'Cards are extremely popular since the monument has become very well-known both nationally and internationally. Maps and Guide books have helped to spread the name and the reputation over many years plus numerous television features. The most notable programme was filmed in 1987 when the Paul Daniels Magic Show used the Inn as the backdrop to some spectacular illusions.
